Tom Panaseny

Vice president of operations, Newland Communities' FishHawk Ranch and Lake Hutto communities

Tom Panaseny comes to Newland Communities, a San Diego builder with Tampa operations, from the St. Joe Co., where he was a senior vice president and general manager. Panaseny won the first State of Florida Secretaries Environmental Award and also has won the Planning Commission Award of Excellence. Before returning to Tampa, he was a board member of the Gulf County Habitat for Humanity. Panaseny earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of South Florida.

Scott C. Weliver

Tampa office manager, MACTEC Engineering & Consulting

Scott C. Weliver has joined MACTEC Engineering & Consulting, an Alpharetta, Ga., engineering firm with operations in Tampa. Weliver is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and his previous military experience includes serving as inspector general of the U.S. Military Academy and deputy director of the U.S. Military Academy Bicentennial Task Force. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy and a master's degree in environmental engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Society of Military Engineers and works on Habitat for Humanity homes.

Alan Bomstein is the recipient of the Class of '56 Award from the University of South Florida. The award is presented to a nonalumnus who has served the university and the community. Bomstein is president of Creative Contractors Inc., Clearwater.

Terry Mathewshas been named a senior retirement actuary at Watson Wyatt, Tampa. Mathews was a senior retirement consultant at Towers-Perrin, Tampa.

Kristen Andonian has been named an employee benefit consultant at Alltrust Insurance, Tarpon Springs. Andonian was a district manager at CheckPoint HR, Oldsmar.

Jon A. Miller has been named assistant vice president, workers compensation claims, at Amerisure Mutual Insurance Co., Florida Core Service Center, St. Petersburg. Miller was an ABI claim manager at the Hartford, Tampa.

Allyson Lazzara has been named an associate at Williams Schifino Mangione & Steady P.A., Tampa., and concentrates in the areas of business litigation, securities litigation and arbitration. Lazzara was an associate at Gray Robinson, P.A., Tampa.

Bobby L. Reynolds has been named an associate at Gallagher & Associates Law Firm P.A., St. Petersburg. Reynolds is a recent graduate of Stetson University College of Law, St. Petersburg.

Carlton Fields, Tampa, announces that Kenneth A. Tinkler and William "Ty" Giltinan have been selected for the 2008 class of Leadership Westshore, a leadership program sponsored by the Westshore Alliance. UNIVERSITIES

Linda M. Whiteford, an anthropology professor at the University of South Florida, Tampa, received the Faulty Research Recognition Award. Given by the University of South Florida Women in Leadership and Philanthropy, Whiteford received a $5,000 grant to support continued research and one year's honorary membership in Women in Leadership and Philanthropy.
