News for you from the New Port Richey Library!

- NPR Library now offers a self-playing digital audio book. Half the size of a deck of cards, PlayAway is a simple way to listen to a book on the go and - with no tapes or CDs - it can hold as little as much as 80 hours of content on each unit. Using clearly marked buttons, Playaway gives listeners the ability to move back and forth within or between chapters and alter the speed of a narrator's voice. It even has an automatic bookmark feature that remembers where you left off. There are more than 400 bestselling current and classic titles on Playaway, and the format is friendly for listeners of all ages. Check one out for yourself starting Wednesday.

- Learn to Dance @ Your Library: The library offers a wide variety of inexpensive dance lessons, and all proceeds benefit the Friends of the NPR Library. Learn to dance to searing Spanish Flamenco rhythms with dance instructor Paquita Dawson -$10 per person per class. Learn a different dance or skill every month from swing to self-defense with Dr. Rita, $6 per person per class. Learn to Line Dance with Diane, $6 per person per class. Baby Ballet is being offered for the little ones, $6 per person per class. For details and to register for any of these classes, please call Ann at 727-8531.

Calling all Bands! Sign up for Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus. Pasco's original Battle of the Bands! Calling all bands! The Pasco County Library System is inviting bands to sign up. The event is scheduled for March 28 and will be at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills. Beginning at 6 p.m., the eight qualifying bands will have 25 minutes to perform, with at least two original songs in the set. The bands must have a minimum of three people, reside mostly in Pasco County, and the majority of the members must be under 20 years of age. Any style of music is eligible. The bands will be judged on stage presence, vocals, songwriting and general musicianship. Hurry! The signup deadline is Jan. 12. Go to the teen page on our Web site, pascolibraries.org; the teen blog; or www.MySpace.com/pascolibraries to find all the details on how to enter.

In addition to this contest, we're adding something new - a video/online documentary that will allow the bands to compete for the honor of having the best online presence. We're going to post eight weekly episodes on MySpace TV so that you can join us and watch each of the bands and then vote for your favorite band each week. We'll have a new winner each week and a final champion at the end. And yes, you can win both the MySpace and live performance contests if you're just that good.
