Dip into batik artistry at reception

The Spring Hill Art League and Easy Street Home Decor will host an artist's reception for Julie Komenda from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Easy Street Home Decor, 838 E Jefferson St. Komenda is a local batik artist who has been perfecting her craft for 40 years. Door prizes will be awarded. Wine, sangria, cheese and crackers will be served. There is no cost to attend. For information, call 848-0177.
Task force to look at restoration work
Residents are invited to share ideas on potential water resources restoration projects at an upcoming Hernando County Task Force meeting. The meeting will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Governing Board room at Southwest Florida Water Management District Headquarters, 2379 Broad St., south of Brooksville. Attorney general speech now Feb. 18
The Annuttaliga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has rescheduled its luncheon meeting featuring Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum. It will be at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Brooksville Country Club at Majestic Oaks, 23446 Links Drive. McCollum will speak about the state Cyber Crime Unit, which targets child pornography and pedophile problems on the Internet. Tickets are $13 with $1 benefiting the DAR's Hernando County Scholarship Fund. The deadline to purchase tickets is Feb. 11. For tickets or information, call Lynette Grossenbacher at 544-8162.

NAMI needs volunteers
The National Alliance on Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando is seeking help with several needs. A craft instructor is needed to volunteer twice a month at the Beautiful Mind Outreach Center, 10554 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. The center is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; call the center, 684-0004, or Ginny, 686-2687. Also, a bipolar facilitator is needed for an evening bipolar support group. The group encourages anyone who may be a retired counselor, nurse or teacher, or someone with similar experience, to help out. Call 686-0004. Port Authority to meet next month
