CLEARWATER

Homes evacuated after bomb scare

A bomb scare Monday afternoon led Clearwater police to evacuate several homes on S Martin Luther King Street. Officers went to the 1300 block of the street after a woman called police shortly after noon to report that her neighbor said he had a bomb that would go off in 11 minutes. Officers talked to the man and determined that he was mentally ill. After about 90 minutes, the man came out and was taken into custody for a 72-hour mental health evaluation. No one was hurt and no bomb was found.

LARGO

Two men arrested on abuse charges

It was a busy weekend for Largo police. On Saturday, officers received a call about a woman riding on the hood of a car on Ulmerton Road around 12:30 p.m. After she was dropped off at a gas station at Ulmerton and Belcher roads, the woman told police she had been arguing earlier that day with her boyfriend, Joey Batdorff, 28. When he tried to leave their home at the Meridian Palms Apartments, 305 Glades Circle, she jumped on the car to stop him. But Batdorff continued to drive at speeds of up to 50 mph, witnesses said. Batdorff, who has been released from jail, faces one count of aggravated domestic battery. Then, at 1:19 a.m. Monday, officers were called to Cork Street in response to an unrelated complaint of domestic battery. The suspect, Patrick Kilgore, 35, fled the house wearing only his boxer shorts. Officers found him on the roof of his home. Kilgore was charged with three counts of domestic battery and was being held Monday at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
