New rules in effectfor reptile owners

If scaly things areyour thing, listen up: New rules affecting certain reptiles in Florida took effect Jan. 1. Anyone seeking to own a python, green anaconda or Nile monitor lizard must get a permit and microchip. The reptiles must be caged, lest they go visiting the neighbors. Owners must answer questions about basic reptile care and have an (ouch) "bite response plan." There's also an annual $100 fee. For more details, see the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Web site, MyFWC.com/permits.
