Largo's Johnson sets up visits
Largo quarterback/defensive back Leonard Johnson said he will visit USF on Jan. 11 and Ole Miss on Jan. 18. He has visited Iowa State and Troy and is deciding whether to make a trip to Memphis or Oklahoma State.
Johnson was supposed to have an in-house visit from Nebraska recruiters, but said he has not heard from the Cornhuskers in the past three weeks.
Northeast's Boyd narrows his list
Northeast defensive lineman Javontae Boyd is deciding between five schools: Georgia, Miami, Rutgers, South Carolina and USF.
Boyd is scheduling an unofficial visit to the Bulls and is waiting on a qualifying test score to take his others. Boyd could become the third Viking to sign with a Division I school, joining Jeff Brinson (Iowa) and Armando Sanchez (USF).
Alumni game set
The second annual Northeast-St. Petersburg alumni men's basketball game is Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Northeast High gym.
Any alumnus who wants to play for St. Petersburg should call coach Chris Blackwell at 893-1842. Those wanting to play for Northeast should call Chirrod Williams at 570-3138 ext. 1067, or at home at 674-8835.
Northeast won last year's game in overtime on a last-second basket by Phillip Webster.
Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the door or from Blackwell or Northeast coach David Redding.
Spartan stars on tap for Hall of Fame
Former Lakewood athletes William Floyd, Tom Carter, Lynn Norenberg, coach John Oescher and the Spartans 1970 baseball team will be inducted into the school's sports hall of fame Thursday. A reception will be held in the faculty cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. for the honorees and guests. The induction ceremony will start at 7:30 in the school's gym.
