Coast Guard offers 8-week boating class

The Coast Guard Auxiliary, 4340 Calienta St., will offer its Boating Skills and Seamanship course from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 9 to Feb. 27. The cost of the eight-week class is $50, which includes text material. Completion of the course satisfies requirements to obtain a Florida boating safety ID. Time for toddlers, stories at libraries
The Hernando County Public Library System will offer its 10-week toddler time (for ages 18 to 35 months) and storytime (for ages 3 to 5 years) programs, starting this week and running through the week of March 10 at these locations: Tuesdays at East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road, Ridge Manor West; Thursdays at Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill; and Fridays at West Hernando/S.T. Foggia Branch Library, 6335 Blackbird Ave., Spring Hill. All toddler time programs start at 10 a.m., and storytime programs at 11 a.m. Children enjoy stories, finger plays, songs and other activities. No registration is required. Learn about the Florida Trail
The Florida Trail Association will present "Hike Across Florida - Hike Across Hernando" at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the East Hernando Branch Library, 6457 Windmere Road. The association will show a movie and give a presentation about the Florida Trail, which covers the length of Florida, with more than 50 miles in Hernando County. Series offers support for adults
Hernando-Pasco Hospice will offer its Transitions support series at 2 p.m. Mondays, starting Jan. 14, and also at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 29, at the office at 12260 Cortez Blvd. Transitions is a support group for adults who have recently experienced the death of a family member or close friend. The groups are led by hospice counselors. Free, but registration is requested. Two Transitions groups will also be offered in Citrus County: One group will meet at 2:30 p.m. and another at 6 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 22, in the community room at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center, 6201 N Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19), Crystal River. Green Party to show 'Sicko'
The Hernando County Green Party will show Michael Moore's film Sicko at 5:45 p.m. Monday at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Garden Club nursery reopening
