Property tax yeas and nays are luncheon topic Hear some of the pros and cons about Florida's property tax reform amendment at the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce business luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 15 at Cypress Palms, 400 Lake Ave. State Reps. Jim Frishe, R-Indian Rocks Beach, and Janet Long, D-Seminole, will talk about the amendment, which goes to voters on Jan. 29. The chamber's board of directors has agreed to remain neutral on the amendment, as have many business organizations throughout the state despite lobbying efforts by Gov. Charlie Crist, who is seeking financial contributions for a multimillion advertising campaign in support of the amendment. The cost for the luncheon is $10 in advance and $15 at the door for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. To register, e-mail info@largochamber.org or call 584-2321. HYPE kickoff, Rays discussion is Thursday A look at what's in store for the Tampa Bay Rays is on tap when the Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce officially introduces its new young professionals group, HYPE Pinellas, during a special kickoff reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Acropolis Greek Taverna, 13575 58th St. N at the ICOT Center off Ulmerton Road. The event is sponsored by Ameriprise Financial and the Acropolis. HYPE, the acronym for Helping Young Professionals Emerge, is open to business owners and professionals between the ages of 21 and 39. Its objective is to provide networking, professional development and community outreach to regional young professionals to prepare them to becommunity leaders. The cost to attend the HYPE reception is $10. To register, contact the chamber at 584-2321 or e-mail info@largochamber.org Free seminar is guideto start small business The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce and SCORE Service Corps of Retired Executives will have a free session, "10 Steps to Start a Successful Small Business" from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Jenkins Wing at the Largo Public Library, 120 Central Park Drive. The program will identify what it takes to be an entrepreneur, how to develop a business plan and how to manage a business. Handouts will be provided to all participants.
