Boys hoops: Warriors run way to title

LARGO - Knowing that Hollywood Christian brought just seven players, Calvary Christian coach Dave Bintz wanted his team to step up its defensive intensity in the second half, hoping to wear down the Eagles in the final of the Indian Rocks Christian Holiday Tournament.
The increase in pressure worked. The Warriors, who trailed 33-23 at halftime, outscored Hollywood Christian 25-10 in the third quarter and pushed their lead to as much as 14 late in the fourth for a 72-61 victory.
"We tried to get them in a running game because I know this is their third game in three days," Bintz said.
Calvary Christian (12-3) scored the first 10 of the second half to knot it at 33. From there, it was back and forth until Marcos Quinonnes (18 points, 10 rebounds) made three straight baskets and a free throw to give the Warriors a five-point advantage at 48-43 entering the final quarter.
Calvary Christian then extended its lead over Hollywood Christian (10-3), which was further hampered when C.J. Jones (13 points, 10 rebounds) fouled out with 6:29 left.
"They're very well-conditioned," Bintz said. "But we started handling their quickness in the second half."
Emmanuel Delgado scored 18 and was named tournament MVP. Joining him on the all-tournament team were teammate Christian Bibi Ndongo (13 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks) and Kevin Hincapie (18 points) of Hollywood Christian.
Others on the all-tournament team: Chase White (Florida Christian), Raymond Hartsfield (Tarpon Springs), Billy Hester (Mitchell), Devin Paularinne (Seffner Christian), Jonathan Hogan (Indian Rocks Christian) and Justin Ford (Seminole).
