St. Petersburg'sCity Championship
ST. PETERSBURG - For the first time in the 13-year history of the City Championship, a wrestler captured a title for the fourth straight year.
Dixie Hollins' Jacob Lawhead used two pins and a major decision to accomplish the feat. And he sparked the Rebels to the team title, breaking a two-year reign by the Northeast Vikings.
"It was nice to know in 13 years I was the first one to accomplish something like that," Lawhead said. "Knowing I was the first person to do it, that's a big deal to me."
The Rebels had four individual champions and finished with 216.5 points. Jordan McKenzie (103), Joe Hornbeck (135) and Tay Harrington (152) all won titles.
St. Petersburg was second with 174 points. Demetrius Madry (119), Oshain Goslin (125), Deontae Jones (189) and Teddy Moser (215) were champions for the Green Devils.
In the heavyweight championship, No. 4 seed Jimmie Bush of Northeast pulled off a stunner with three pins for the title. It was his fourth tournament of the year. He was fourth at a tournament in Brandon and did not place at the other two.
"After the first match, I was feeling pretty good," Bush said. "I got done what I had to get done. The kids I beat, I lost to in the past."
