PLANT CITY - A 17-year-old Plant City High School student was hospitalized Tuesday after a sedan hit him and sped off while the teen was walking to a waiting school bus, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said.
Joshua Cabbage, 17, a Plant City High School student, began crossing Gallagher Road when he was struck by the right front side of a gray or silver car about 6:30 a.m. Authorities said the driver hadn't stopped for the bus' activated emergency lights and extended arm as Cabbage crossed the road.
That vehicle continued south past Thonotosassa Road.
Cabbage sustained multiple leg fractures and was taken to Tampa General Hospital, authorities said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Investigators say the vehicle should have a broken passenger side window and possibly a broken or missing outside mirror.
Anyone with information about the vehicle is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200 or CrimeStoppers at1-800-873-8477.
