A notable course

Top-ranked: The Pete Dye championship golf course at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville has been named to two of "Golfweek's Best" lists for the second year.

The course was included among the nation's top 50 best new courses as well as the top 100 best residential courses for 2007.

League play

Belles & Beaus: A few brave souls played through last Wednesday's chilly temperatures at Quarry Golf Course in Brooksville for the Belles & Beaus league.

Allen Lackey, Rick Cofman, Ron Dorn and Linda Bigelow scored 55 to have the lowest team score.

Doralee Lackey was the closest woman to the pin on hole No. 5.

Bill Crocker was the closest man to the pin on hole No. 4.

The league plays every Wednesday at the Quarry Golf Course. Call 352 544-5485 with questions.

Magnolia Valley: The Magnolia Valley Golf Course has leagues available for public play twice a week.

There is a nine-hole scramble at 3 p.m. Wednesdays for ABCD players.

The course makes up the teams, and the cost is $19, which includes prizes.

The Sunday league starts at 8 a.m. and is an 18-hole, scramble format for ABCD players. The cost is $35, which includes prizes.

Golf outings

Ongoing:Caliente Resort and Spa will have golf outings every Wednesday afternoon at the Groves Golf and Country Club, and the first Saturday of every month at championship courses.

The schedule for the monthly outings is:

Feb. 2: Quail Hollow

Mar. 1: Rogers Park

April 5: Silver Dollar

May 3: Northdale

June 7: Seven Springs

All outings are a scramble format. Nonmembers of Caliente interested in learning more about us are welcome to play.

Jan. 26: The Heather Golf & Country Club will host a member-guest open house golf outing.

There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. with registration at 8.

A $10 entry fee will be charged for play, which includes golf, cart and lunch.

No handicap is required for play.

A $100 credit will be awarded toward a golf membership.

The day will include prizes and gifts.
