Orchestra performance with a twist
By John Fleming, Times performing arts critic
Published January 10, 2008
This weekend is undoubtedly the first time that the Florida Orchestra's guest artists have included aerial artists, hand balancers, a juggler and a contortionist. The program is "Cirque de la Symphonie," in which classical music is combined with circus performers, such as Aloysia Gavre (who appeared for five years in Cirque du Soleil's Quidam) flying to Saint-Saens' Bacchanale and Vladimir Tsarkov juggling to Khachaturian's Sabre Dance. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa; and 8 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg. $19-$54.
