Girls soccer: River Ridge outshoots Hudson 22-4 in win

HUDSON - What was set to be a close match turned out to be a one-sided affair Wednesday as River Ridge shut out Hudson 2-0.
"When we get aggressive and move the ball foot to foot we can keep the ball in our half," Knights coach Skip Glover said. "But Hudson was moving to the ball well and they were aggressive enough to throw us off our game occasionally."
Glover kept his comments conservative despite the fact his team outshot the Cobras 22-4, with 17 landing on target.
"They landed right on the keeper, that was the problem," Glover said. "I don't think that we were very accurate at all. We were on goal, but right in her hands, and she is a good enough keeper that you can't do that."
Hudson (16-3-2) played aggressively in the midfield but struggled to create chances, finding the target only twice on its four attempts.
Jenny Karl put the Knights (18-1-2) ahead in the 23rd minute on a clean break as she found the upper left corner. All players seemed on edge as the minutes ticked and the advantage hovered at one goal. Shelby Holley relieved the tension in the 86th minute when she put in a goal after five shots on target.
Knights captain Deana Rossi couldn't find the back of the net. Still on the cusp of a River Ridge record, she is tied for most career goals with 107.
"They are sitting two and three girls on her, and it is kind of hard to play through that," Glover said.
