USF's Gregory has eye on Richmond job

TAMPA - USF offensive coordinator Greg Gregory said Friday that he has a "very strong interest" in the head-coaching vacancy at his alma mater, Richmond.
"I know I'm interested," said Gregory, who has been on USF's staff three seasons, one as coordinator. "It's my alma mater. It's my hometown. ... I don't know if they're interested in me. It takes two to tango."
Spiders coach Dave Clawson resigned Friday to become Tennessee's offensive coordinator.
Gregory, 50, played quarterback at Richmond, graduating in 1980, and was the Spiders' offensive coordinator in 2000 when they won the Atlantic 10 title.
"It's been one of my goals to be the head coach there," said Gregory, whose son Grant is USF's top backup quarterback. "If things went right, that could be the last stop for me there."

UCF: Defensive coordinator John Skladany left to join new Houston coach Kevin Sumlin's staff as safeties coach.
WEST VIRGINIA: Coach Bill Stewart hired three assistants: Steve Dunlap, assistant head coach in charge of safeties; David Lockwood, cornerbacks coach; and Chris Beatty, running backs and slot receivers.
DRAFT DECLARATIONS: Ohio State's Vernon Gholston, the Big Ten defensive lineman of the year, will leave early for the draft. ... Oregon's Jonathan Stewart will leave early after rushing for a school-record 1,722 yards. ... Louisville linebacker Lamar Myles will leave early.
