Sen. Crist to talk insurance, taxes

State Sen. Victor Crist will speak to the Republican Club of Central Pasco during its regular meeting, which starts with a social hour at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Steve's Fountainview Restaurant in the Central Pasco Government Building on Land O'Lakes Boulevard. Crist will discuss recent decisions by the state government regarding insurance and taxes. Joanne Hurley, a candidate for the District 2 School Board seat, also will speak.
In December, the club held its Christmas party and collected for the Toys for Tots campaign. Those attending included State Rep. Will Weatherford; County Commissioner Jack Mariano; Paula O'Neil, candidate for clerk of the court; and Peter Hanzel, also a candidate in the District 2 School Board race.

History society dinner will present free book
Jay B. Starkey Jr., a rancher and conservationist, will speak at the 7 p.m. Friday meeting of the Pasco County Historical Society. He will present the program and a give a free copy of the book Things I Remember by his father Jay B. Starkey Sr. to each person in attendance. Several meetings are scheduled this week by the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce. An "Open House and Mixer" is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at Lifestyle Family Fitness of Lutz, 23810 State Road 54. A ribbon cutting and mixer is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fifth Third Bank, 1122 Dale Mabry Highway. Wine and cheese will be served. 'Soul of Success' is topic of King lecture
Ephren W. Taylor, CEO of City Capital Corporation, will discuss "Living Up To Your Dream: The Soul Of Success," during Pasco-Hernando Community College's 23rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture. Taylor, who was a millionaire at 17, also hosts the "Soul of Success" radio show on XM radio. He will give two presentations Thursday. The first will be at 10 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center on the New Port Richey campus, 10230 Ridge Road. The second one will be at 7 p.m. in Building E, room 130, at the Dade City campus, 36727 Blanton Road. Each presentation will last about an hour, and include time for questions. Both are free. Wine festival coming to Fla. Estates Winery
Florida Estates Winery, 25241 State Road 52, 4 miles west of I-75 near Land O'Lakes, will host a Wine Festival and Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 26. The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department is offering five levels of dog training classes in six-week segments throughout 2008.
