BAYONET POINT - A pedestrian on U.S. 19 was killed Sunday night after he walked into the path of a motorcycle just south of State Road 52, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Authorities withheld the name of the 55-year-old Port Richey man, pending notification of next of kin. James Schooler, 36, of Hudson was driving his motorcycle south on U.S. 19 about 6 p.m. when the man stepped in his path. He tried to swerve, but ended up hitting the man, said Lt. Harold Frear of the FHP.

Schooler suffered only minor injuries. A passenger on the motorcycle fled on foot, but further information was unavailable.
