School board okays rest of contracts
The Hernando County School Board approved its remaining contracts Tuesday with district employees, giving raises to members of the Hernando United Service Workers union, non-teaching staff and administrative workers. The board approved an average salary increase of 5.5 percent, plus the full cost of a 1 percent health insurance increase. Last month, Hernando teachers reached a deal for a 6.04 percent raise plus the 1 percent benefit, with teachers agreeing to work an additional day per year for the extra money.
Blood need called urgent for all types
LifeSouth Community Blood Services is in urgent need of all blood types. A blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Brooksville Regional Hospital, 17240 Cortez Blvd. To donate, you must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo ID. The local LifeSouth center, at 12395 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Baseball program for kids ages 3 to 5
Brooksville Recreation Department is offering a "Little Buddies" baseball program for children ages 3 to 5 years. This is a six-week program that will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, starting Jan. 26, at the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, off Darby Lane. The cost is $50, which includes a T-shirt. Call 544-5498.
