Current movies recommended by the Times:
1. Sweeney Todd - Johnny Depp cuts a striking figure as a vengeful barber in Tim Burton's gruesome Broadway adaptation. Winner of two Golden Globes.
2. Juno - Ellen Page is delightful as a pregnant teenager seeking adoptive parents for her baby. Nominated for three Golden Globe awards.
3. The Orphanage - Spain's official entry in the Oscar race for foreign language films is a creepy ghost story, produced by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth).
4. There Will Be Blood - Daniel Day-Lewis is a Golden Globe winner and Oscar frontrunner, playing a dastardly oil tycoon, as if there's any other kind.
5. The Kite Runner - Childhood friends in Afghanistan are torn apart by scandal and shame in Marc Forster's version of the bestselling novel.
