Tomlinson practices as Rivers sits again

SAN DIEGO - The Chargers are slowly getting their injured players back.
Quarterback Philip Rivers on Thursday sat out his second straight practice with a sprained right knee. But two-time rushing champion LaDainian Tomlinson returned after sitting out Wednesday to rest his hyperextended left knee. Both were hurt Sunday against the Colts.
"I think we're making progress," coach Norv Turner said. "I think we'll get a couple more guys practicing (today)."
Turner added Tomlinson looked good and Rivers "was wanting to go out and throw some and take some drops," but the team's trainer didn't believe it was appropriate.
Also sitting out were tight end Antonio Gates (toe) and defensive tackle Jamal Williams (ankle). Linebacker Shawne Merriman was limited again due to an undisclosed illness.
SUPPORTING MOSS: Patriots coach Bill Belichick expressed his support for receiver Randy Moss, the subject of a temporary restraining order obtained by a longtime friend. He said he wasn't concerned the allegation brought by Rachelle Washington that Moss committed battery might affect him Sunday.
"I've talked to Randy about it, and I support Randy 100 percent," Belichick said.
Washington's lawyer issued a statement saying Moss' representatives were the first to suggest he pay the woman to keep the issue quiet, NBCSports.com reported. The lawyer, David McGill, and Moss' agent, Tim DiPiero, did not return calls from the Associated Press.
Wednesday, Moss said the payment suggestion came from her side and totaled "six figures." He called it "extortion." No charge has been brought.
FUZZY MATH: The Patriots have spent the week building up the Chargers as the best team in the league since Thanksgiving. They were 5-5 before the holiday but 8-0 since. Belichick likes to note his team has won one fewer game during that stretch. But that's because New England had a playoff bye.
