ST. PETERSBURG - In their third meeting of the season, regulation wasn't enough for Shorecrest Prep and Indian Rocks Christian to determine a winner. Shorecrest finally won 1-0 on penalty kicks (3-2) to capture the district title.

"This was the toughest of the three games we played against them this season," Shorecrest coach Neal Wolfrath said.

Indian Rocks (11-9) opened the first half pressuring the Chargers defense but goalie Edie Burns and sweeper Kim Newton were able to keep the Golden Eagles from scoring until the offense came around.

The Chargers (14-4-1) offense was led by forwards Jenn Casey and Brooke Davis along with midfielders Erin McClenathan and Rachel Ware. They routinely found their way through the IRC defense for 13 shots on goal but goalie Bethany Holman wouldn't give in.

"Bethany was on fire," IRC coach Joe Raissi said. "She's a great goalie with lots of potential."

In penalty kicks, McClenathan made hers to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Jensen Eifert evened things at 1. Holman then went on the offensive, making her penalty kick while Newton answered for the Chargers. After a miss by the Golden Eagles, Ware beat Holman to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead. Burns stopped the next shot to give Shorecrest the championship.
