Alinda Villas, an upscale 13-unit townhouse development, was approved 4-1 by the City Commission last week. The project, planned on the southeast corner of Bayshore Boulevard and Wilson Street, was approved in 2005 but had to go before the commission again after a slumping real estate market delayed the project. Vice Mayor Deborah Kynes voted against the development, citing concerns about density. Commissioners also unanimously approved the preliminary site plan for a 19-unit townhome project planned by Habitat for Humanity for the southeast corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Howell Street. In addition, the commission unanimously okayed a 3 percent merit raise to City Manager Robert DiSpirito, the maximum awarded to city workers this year. That raises his salary to $139,513.50.
