Longtime Florida State recruiting coordinator John Lilly is seemingly on his way to join Mark Richt at Georgia, according to Rivals.com.
Georgia officials said only that there is an opening on the staff. Tight ends coach David Johnson, part of Richt's original staff in 2001, left to be the offensive line coach at West Virginia.
Lilly did not return a call Monday afternoon. Coach Bobby Bowden, reached at home during the day, said Richt, his former offensive coordinator, asked for permission to talk to Lilly and did offer him a job. Lilly came to FSU in 1995 as a videographer.
"If he leaves, we won't shuffle anything," Bowden said of Lilly's recruiting duties with national signing date less than three weeks away.
One top prospect, North Carolina tight end Dwayne Allen, told UGASports.com that Richt said Lilly was a potential replacement for Johnson.
"It helps Georgia a lot," said Allen, who's also considering FSU, North Carolina, Clemson and Virginia Tech. "I like Coach Lilly a lot and I think he is great. It will be really hard for me to be torn away from there. ... This pretty much means I am not going to Florida State."
USF ADDITION: Quavon Taylor, a linebacker/strong safety from Miami Northwestern, became USF's 23rd verbal commitment Sunday, recruiting site USFnation.com reported. Taylor, 6 feet and 190 pounds, also considered Tennessee, Mississippi and Memphis, the site reported. He is rated as a two-star recruit by Scout.com. Also, former USF cornerback Mike Jenkins, projected as a first-round NFL pick, opted not to participate in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week, USF sports information director Chris Freet said. It's unknown why Jenkins chose not to play in the senior showcase game. Former USF linebacker Ben Moffitt is expected to play.
