Five Packers on 5A all-state list

Largo was widely considered the county's most dominant football program this past season, going 13-1 and advancing to the state semifinals for the first time. The Packers' success also was noticed statewide.

Five Packers were named to the Class 5A all-state team, the most by any county school in any classification.

Brynn Harvey, who set the county single-season rushing record with 2,581 yards, was named first team, as was DE Daniel DelGuidice. OL Travis Feldman and QB/DB Leonard Johnson were third team. LB Mike Marry was an honorable mention.

Dunedin's Adaris Bellamy, who set a school record with more than 1,900 yards rushing, was also named first team. DBs Mike Towns of the Falcons and Larry Murphy of Gibbs were on second team.

Boyd to visit USF

Northeast defensive tackle Javontae Boyd will take his official visit to USF this week.

Tonight, Boyd will get a visit from Kansas State defensive line coach Mo Lattimore, who coached ex-Boca Ciega standout Darren Howard when he was a Wildcat. Boyd plans to visit Louisville, Kansas State and West Virginia.

Dixon questionable

Clearwater's Keona Dixon could miss two key matchups after spraining her ankle vs. Largo on Jan. 17. Coach Tom Shaneyfelt said Dixon would probably be listed as doubtful for Wednesday's game against St. Petersburg and questionable for Friday's PCAC title game.

Boca Ciega hosts St. Petersburg in a girls basketball game tonight at 7:30 that has a lot at stake. The winner will represent the south and host Clearwater in Friday night's Pinellas County Athletic Conference championship game.

Correction

Samantha Wilson scored the winning goal for Lakewood in Friday's Class 5A, District 11 semifinal win over Osceola. An incorrect last name was given. Also, Palm Harbor University's Heather Mariscal's name was misspelled in a Friday soccer story.
