Children can get free dental care
By Times Staff Writer
Published January 23, 2008
Parents should sign up their children by Friday for free dental care through the "Give Kids a Smile" program in Pinellas County. Children ages 3 to 18 who do not have a dental provider and who meet certain requirements are eligible for the free care. Members of the Pinellas County Dental Association expect to screen, clean and treat more than 500 children during the campaign. Parents or guardians must complete paperwork authorizing the dental treatment and transport the child to the assigned dental clinic. Call your school social worker to ensure that your children are eligible. Appointments can be made by calling (727) 210-4222 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or contacting the school social worker, guidance counselor or school nurse. An appointment is necessary. The clinics are at Health Department dental sites in St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg College Dental Hygiene Clinic, Pinellas Technical Education Centers - St. Petersburg Dental Assisting Clinic, Johnnie Ruth Clarke Clinic, University of Florida College of Dentistry Seminole Satellite Clinic and Clearwater Dental Associates.
