LARGO - In a game in which Tampa Prep was looking to showcase its high-powered offense, Cambridge's strong defensive play stole the show at times in a 3-0 Terrapins victory.
During the first half Tuesday, Lancers keeper Josh Lockwood stopped a point-blank blast, but one got by in the 20th minute when the Terrapins' Anthony Baumann found the back corner of the net.
The second half began with the Lancers down one. Tampa Prep found a way to score in the 18th minute when Wes Sever fought hard and won a header. The Terrapins' Ryan Griffin capped off the scoring in the 38th minute.
Tampa Prep advances to the district final Friday and is guaranteed a regional playoff berth.
IRC 4, Calvary Christian 3, OT
For county scoring leader Greg McClimans, it took until only the fourth minute against Indian Rocks Christian to put Calvary Christian on top en route to an overtime victory. The Warriors added another goal in the 15th minute. The Golden Eagles were given a yellow card and the resulting indirect free kick found the back of the net when Andy Thomas floated the ball over the Indian Rocks keeper. Indian Rocks shifted the momentum of the half in the 26th minute on a shot by Brice Nardozzi.
Calvary added to its lead in the sixth minute of the second half when McClimans got through Indian Rocks' defense. Down by two, the Golden Eagles rallied to tie the game. During the sixth minute of overtime, Calvary sealed the victory when McClimans scored the golden goal.
Calvary Christian advances to the district final Friday and is guaranteed a regional playoff berth.
