Nolan Sadorf's first shutout of the season came at an opportune time for host Keswick Christian.
The Crusaders scored a first-half goal and Sadorf recorded 13 saves as the fifth-seeded Crusaders advanced to the 2A-11 boys soccer semifinals Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Admiral Farragut.
"He's been the surprise of the season," Keswick coach Angel Miranda said of his junior keeper. "He played a great game for us tonight."
John Donald scored the only goal in the 30th minute for Keswick (7-11-4). Keswick and top-seeded Shorecrest will battle today in the district semifinals.
- Sickles 3, St. Petersburg 2
At Countryside, Sickles' 2-0 halftime lead was enough to hold up in the 6A-7 district tournament opening round as the sixth-seeded Gryphons ousted No. 3 St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg scored after the break to cut Sickles' lead to one but missed a penalty kick opportunity that would have tied the score. Sickles (10-7-5) again stretched its lead to two when Gus Moraes scored. St. Petersburg got a late goal off a free kick.
Josh Bissen had two goals for Sickles, which will play second-seeded Gaither in the semifinals. Steve Mallue had both of St. Petersburg's goals.
- Palm Harbor University 2, Clearwater 0
Second-seeded PHU took care of No. 7 Clearwater in the first round of the 5A-9 district tournament at Dunedin.
Ishmail Kamara scored in the first half to give PHU (18-1-2) a 1-0 halftime lead. Ben Sweat added a second-half goal for the Hurricanes.
PHU outshot Clearwater 16-1.
- Northeast 7, Gibbs 0
After leading just 1-0 at halftime, second-seeded Northeast scored six second-half goals to defeat No. 7 Gibbs and advance to the 5A-11 semifinals.
Jasmin Mecanovik scored twice for Northeast, which also got goals from Neven Radovanovic, Andy Vallejo, Stephan Ferrus, Lukasz Chrzastek and Alejandro Mozo.
Northeast (13-2-1) advances to play Lakewood today.
- Lakewood 8, Boca Ciega 0
In the 5A-11 quarterfinals, host Lakewood got four goals from Hamza Elotmani to defeat No. 6 Boca Ciega and advance to the district semifinals.
Quinn Hessinger, Shane Wixted and Adrian deHaro also scored for the third-seeded Spartans (9-6), who led 4-0 at halftime.
Lakewood will take on Northeast today for the right to play in Friday's district championship.
- Dixie Hollins 2, Osceola 1
After scoring a first-half goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, No. 4 seed Dixie Hollins held on over No. 5 seed Osceola in the 5A-11 quarterfinals.
The Rebels (10-4) face off against Seminole today with the winner moving on to the district title game.
- Clearwater Central Catholic 1, St. Petersburg Catholic 0
No. 5 seed CCC scored just after halftime to beat fourth-seeded CCC by a goal in the first round of the 3A-9 district tournament.
Jeremy Park scored in the 51st minute for the host Marauders (3-18-2). SPC (9-5-4) applied heavy pressure trying to score the equalizer late but couldn't get past CCC goalie Matt Thomas.
The Marauders play top-seeded Berkeley Prep today in the tournament semifinals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Largo 62, Dunedin 50
Ben Patrick scored a game-high 24 for Largo as the hosts held on.
Patrick was particularly effective in the fourth quarter, when he scored nine and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to help Largo (16-4, 8-3) close out the Falcons. Largo led 31-17 at halftime, but four Dunedin 3-pointers in the third quarter helped the Falcons get to within six points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Admiral Farragut 46, Calvary Christian 43
Admiral Farragut's ability to break Calvary Christian's press late in the game was the difference as the Blue Jackets held on for a road win.
Calvary (6-11, 1-5) trailed by 10entering the final quarter but took a one-point lead with four minutes remaining. From there, the Warriors, who have just six players on the team, ran out of gas.
Admiral (4-9, 0-7) was led by Kristen Montanari's 18 points; Taylor Irwin added 17. Calvary's Sarah Trill scored a game-high 26. Sami Mauder also had 16 points for the Warriors, who had just three players score in the game.
- Countryside 39, Dunedin 32
Trailing 26-24 entering the fourth quarter, Countryside outscored Dunedin 15-6 over the final quarter, aided by three consecutive field goals from Julie Merritt, to win on the road.
Merritt finished with 12 points to lead Countryside (12-10, 4-6). Dunedin (14-6, 9-3) received a game-high 15 points from Jalisa Stone.
- Tarpon Springs 48, Dixie Hollins 29
On the road, Tarpon Springs cruised to a 19-point victory over Dixie Hollins.
Alli Corbett had a game-high 19 points to lead the way for the Spongers.
Dixie Hollins senior Tori Robison had 16 points to lead the Rebels. Robison is eight points shy of becoming the first female basketball player in Dixie Hollins history to score 1,000 points.
The Warner Southern signee will get an opportunity to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier Thursday at home against Pinellas Park.
