PALM RIVER

Meeting to address sports complex plans

The county parks department will discuss plans for a 120-acre sports complex in Palm River at a Monday meeting.

The Progress Village Sports Complex would open in summer 2009. The Progress Village and Southeast Little Leagues would merge and practice at the new complex.

Progress Village Little League president Tony Parker can't wait for the extra space, but the Southeast Little League isn't as thrilled, Little League District 13 administrator Cal Lieble said.

The new complex would be farther from some players' homes, he said, and many children bike to practice.

Some players would probably have to drop out because of transportation issues, he said.

The meeting will be at the Progress Village Recreation Center, 8709 Progress Blvd., at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
