Wesley Chapel to host Region C soccer matches

Wesley Chapel Athletic Association and the Wesley Chapel Soccer Club will host the Florida Youth Soccer Association's Region C Soccer Tournament at the Wesley Chapel District Park through February and the beginning of March. Region C's boundaries are from the north Hernando County to east Polk County and south Collier County. The event will bring more than 200 teams over three weekends: Feb. 9-10, U10 and U11 Round 1; Feb. 23-24, U10 and U11 Round 2; March 8-9, U10 and U11 quarterfinals.
"The economic impact to Wesley Chapel, Pasco County and the New Tampa area will be tremendous," Wesley Chapel U11 Flames coach Paul Moore said. "Obviously we're very excited to be hosting this part of the tournament."

Football: West Pasco Prowlers Youth Football & Cheer registration for its seventh season will be from10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 at the New Port Richey Rec Center at 6630 Van Buren St. Boys and girls ages 5-15 are welcome, while flag and tackle football are based on Pop Warner age/weight divisions. Also offered is a Challenger League for special-needs children ages 5-15. Teams practice at the Holiday Rec Center. More football: The San Antonio Rattlers, a U13 AAU travel team, is looking for committed players and parents to finalize its 2008 spring roster. All AAU games are played on Sundays and are double headers, usually with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. If interested, please call coach Andres Olaniel at (813) 727-5987 to schedule a try out.
Baseball: San Antonio's Dixie Youth Baseball Program will have sign-ups at the Railroad Depot in San Antonio on the following days: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon;Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.; Feb. 5, 9 a.m. to noon.

Rugby: The Tampa Barbarians, a new Wesley Chapel rugby team, seeks high school players 14-19.

Wrestling: The World Class Wrestling Club is practicing at River Ridge High School, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey.
The club is open to all elementary and middle school-age kids. Practices are from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration is a one-time fee of $100, which includes a USA Wrestling membership card, club T-shirt and wrestling shoes. Cheerleading: The Wiregrass Ranch Cheerleading squad will host a Kiddie Camp in the school's cafeteria Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $35, which includes camp, T-shirt, snack and admission to the home basketball game on Jan. 29.
