ST. PETERSBURG - Friday's district final between Northside Christian and Shorecrest could best be described as a tale of two halves.

The teams played through a scoreless first half. But the second half was a different story as the Chargers quickly scored their first goal and cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Mustangs.

"We started slow and weren't playing our game. Once we started moving, things started to click and we scored some goals," said Shorecrest coach Jeff Diedrich, whose team moved to 14-2-2 and earned a region berth.

The Chargers had 25 shots on goal and scored three times. It all began 10 minutes into the second half when Chargers junior Stephen Spanos scored his first of two goals to make it 1-0. Chargers sophomore Alistair Flynn then scored to make it 2-0 before Spanos sealed the deal with his second goal of the game.

The Chargers defense also played well, limiting the Mustangs to six shots on goal, all in the first half.

The Mustangs defense played well, holding Shorecrest scoreless for the first 50 minutes and stopping 22 of 25 shots on goal.
