Bob Graham, two-term Florida governor and three-term U.S. senator, is focused on the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida, set to open in March, and on writing a textbook on citizenship and a spy novel. Of Tuesday's primary, Graham, 71, said, "I'm distressed that it has come to this point. Since the Democratic candidates are not here campaigning now, they can't identify key activists to help in November."

What is on your nightstand?

Power Game: A Washington Novel by Joseph Nye. He worked in the Clinton administration as assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs.

Your nonfiction book (Intelligence Matters) included some intense information about the government.

About 50 pages that I left out of Intelligence Matters I'll use as the factual base of my novel.

What books on writing have you read?

Stephen King's On Writing. It was enjoyable as a memoir, and I find his advice to be sound. He recommends reading 60 to 80 books a year.
