SCORE will offer free workshops throughout Pinellas County on how to start a small business.
Titled "10 Steps to Start a Successful Small Business," the two-hour sessions are led by an adviser with SCORE, a group of retired executives and business owners who volunteer to advise small businesses.
The first workshop is Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Petersburg's Business Assistance Center, 33 Sixth St. S., third floor. SCORE also offers free counseling by appointment.

Chamber has its say on Tuesday election
The St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Chamber Action Network has released its public policy positions ahead of Tuesday's election.
The chamber opposes Amendment 1. "Amending our Constitution is not the ideal way to fix this problem, especially with the average relief homeowners will experience is estimated at just $240 annually."
The chamber is supporting the half mill increase for Pinellas schools to "recruit and retain a qualified teaching staff" and better prepare the area's work force.
Funeral home group installs new officers
The Pinellas County Funeral Homes Association installed new officers for 2008 at its Jan. 14 banquet.
New president is E. Dale Gunter of E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home & Cremation Services; vice president is Steve Miller of Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home; secretary is Mary Fagan of Memorial Park Funeral Home; treasurer is Adam Plutchok of Veterans Funeral Care.
