Joshua "Josh" Satler recently enlisted in the Army and is attending basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

After completing basic training, Satler will attend three weeks of instruction in parachute rigging at Fort Benning, Ga., then 16 weeks of basic airborne training for jump qualification.

His enlistment is for three years.

Satler is the son of Al and Lettie Satler of Oldsmar, and the grandson of Jeanette Satler of Clearwater.

He is a 2004 graduate of East Lake High School.

Army Pfc. Sarah E. Baker has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During nine weeks of training, Baker studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and she received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, basic first aid and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Mary Baker of Clearwater.

Navy Seaman Sean S. Pettay completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Pettay completed training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

He also participated in "Battle Stations," an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.

Pettay is a 2007 graduate of Countryside High School, Clearwater.
