The Women in Business Forum & Expo: A Balancing Act is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. Admission is free.

A motivational speakers' forum will open the event at 3 p.m. featuring 1999 Miss America Nicole Johnson, recent Emory University College of Law graduate Karly Schweitzer and Bevv Beirl, editor of Bay Area Business Magazine.

At 19, Johnson was rushed to the hospital, her body in shock, apparently close to death from unknown causes. Doctors discovered she had Type 1 diabetes. She went on to win the Miss America pageant in 1999 wearing her insulin pump and became a spokeswoman for the early detection and treatment of diabetes.

As a sophomore at Emory University, Schweitzer suffered severe brain injuries in a car accident. When she emerged from a coma nine days after the accident, she couldn't walk or talk. Doctors advised that she not return to college, but she insisted on it. Not only did she graduate with the rest of her class, but she went on to study at Emory University College of Law and graduated with dual degrees in law and business.

The expo, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., will feature exhibits of Largo and Pinellas County businesses and organizations that interest women or include women as customers and clients. Many exhibitors will represent women-owned or managed companies.

Expo tables are available at $150 for chamber members and $200 for nonmembers. Sponsors include Old Harbor Bank, VIP Market Watch, the Largo Leader, Largo Cultural Center and High Velocity Entertainment.
