School district needs volunteers for mini fairs

The Pinellas County School District is looking for people to assist African-American parents with the application process for magnet programs and fundamental schools for the 2008-09 academic year.

Training sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 Monday and Feb. 4 at the Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S, for any community member with an interest in helping black parents of school-age children learn about their options.

After the training, volunteers will be assigned to assist in one or more information mini fairs for black parents scheduled for the first two weeks of February. The mini fairs will be held at Douglas L. Jamerson Jr. Elementary, John Hopkins Middle School, and Gibbs and Lakewood high schools.

The application period for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs begins Feb. 11 and runs through Feb. 22.
