BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville police officer will be honored today at City Hall as he prepares to leave for a second tour of duty in Iraq. The going-away party for Sgt. Ed Serrano, 46, an eight-year veteran of the Brooksville Police Department, will start at 4:30 p.m. and should last about an hour, police Chief George Turner said. The public is invited to attend the event. "We're trying to have as many people there as we can," Turner said. "We want to let people come and wish him well." A sergeant in the Army Reserve, Serrano is set to report for duty Wednesday. He is expected to be gone for more than a year. Serrano spent a year in Iraq about a year ago, Turner said. Serrano heads up the department's selective traffic enforcement program, among other duties at the agency, Turner said.

As Sgt. Serrano's police dispatcher it was an honor to work for such a man. He is a man who cares about the city police and our residents. I wish him all the luck in such a hostile enviroment. GOD bless you SGT. Operator c-144, brooksville police.
