Nature Coast takes its first step toward the state playoffs tonight when it begins Class 4A, District 8 girls basketball tournament play at Wiregrass Ranch at 7:30. The Sharks are scheduled to face the winner of Monday's Springstead-Sunlake matchup. The Sharks went on a seven-game winning streak to finish the season, including a 55-8 win at Sunlake in the regular-season finale. The Sharks last defeated the Eagles on Jan. 11 in a 50-15 win. Nature Coast swept the season series with each team.

Sharks welcome back Waddy

The Sharks also welcome back Cherikhan Waddy, who has been out since Jan. 17 with an undiagnosed leg injury. She practiced last week, and Sharks coach Travis Lamle expected her to be ready to go. She leads the Sharks in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game.

Wesley Chapel lineman Charles Vanzandt has received a scholarship offer from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. He plans to take an official visit Feb. 18. Wesley Chapel quarterback Greg Jenkins had a visit to FAU last week canceled, and he is exploring other options.
