How can I send letters to recovering American soldiers? Defense Department medical centers cannot accept mail sent to "Any Wounded Soldier" or "A Recovering American Soldier," and the post office cannot deliver it. Instead, Walter Reed hospital recommends considering a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit groups that help troops and their families, listed on the "America Supports You" Web site, www.americasupportsyou.mil.
