Former state official Trombetta dies at 69

TALLAHASSEE Edward John Trombetta, 69, who served under Gov. Reubin Askew, died Sunday in Tallahassee after a heart attack. Trombetta became the secretary of community affairs in 1973. He later became the state's secretary of commerce. JACKSONVILLE Wounded officer in serious condition Officer Jared Reston was in serious condition Monday, two days after he shot and killed a shoplifting suspect, police said. Reston was shot outside Regency Square mall. Police said a bulletproof vest saved his life, stopping three bullets fired into his chest. He was hit in the face, leg and buttocks. BOYNTON BEACH Iraq bomb explosion kills Florida soldier A 28-year-old Florida soldier died of wounds suffered from an explosive in Baghdad, military officials said Monday. Staff Sgt. Robert J. Wilson of Boynton Beach died Saturday after a bomb detonated while he was conducting a dismounted patrol, the Defense Department said. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. Associated Press
