Residents, give input on county development

Pinellas County Community Development officials will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss housing and other needs in Pinellas County. In addition to seeking comments from residents on community development, officials will review the 2006-07 performance of the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership and Emergency Shelter Grant programs. The meeting will be in the Community Development conference room on the eighth floor of the Bank of America Building, 600 Cleveland St., Suite 800, Clearwater.

Celebration honors cemetery's history

The Rose Cemetery, Tarpon Springs' historic black cemetery, will host a celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 to honor local residents who gave their time and service to better their communities. The event will feature a Caribbean band, free food and soft drinks. All are welcome. Established in the early 1900s, the Rose Cemetery is Pinellas County's oldest African-American cemetery. PSTA collecting for overseas military

Employees of Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and Bright House Networks are collecting nonperishable food and personal care products to send to military personnel in combat zones overseas. If you'd like to help send U.S. troops a bus-sized Valentine, bring items to the PSTA customer service center at Park Street and Garden Avenue in Clearwater between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Feb. 10. Bang a drum and relax by a campfire

Bring a drum or other percussion instrument to the drum circle at 6 p.m. Saturday and the first Saturday of every month at George C. McGough Nature Park, 11901 146th St. N.
