For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

ST. PETERSBURG - Mitchell is sending four wrestlers to regions next week, including 171-pound district champion Jessey Lorensten, but coach John Stanjeski believes the Mustangs fell short of their goals Wednesday.
"The way the seedings meeting went, I would like to have seen four champs out of that and some more thirds, but it didn't work out that way," Stanjeski said. "We were coming off a win in our conference and had seven in the finals. Here the competition was good, but we didn't wrestle to our potential.
"We have to come back at regionals and wrestle a little harder."
Lorensten will lead the Mustangs into regions as he scored two pins to get to the finals then scored a first-period pin in his championship bout to improve to 30-4 for the season. Ryan Cassidy lost to Grayson Savage of Palm Harbor University in the 215-pound finals, and Thomas Doman lost to unbeaten Alex Dinielli of East Lake in the 285-pound final. The fourth-place winner for Mitchell was Vasili Kostakis, who took third at 140 pounds.
As a team, the Mustangs took fourth with 94.5 points. East Lake was the surprise champion with 189 points and 13 region qualifiers.
