Black History presentation with Mable Sims: 1 to 3:30 p.m., Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, off Darby Lane, Brooksville. Sims, whose African name is Lesidi Lebore, will give a presentation about her trip to Africa and her artifacts. An exhibit of her African artifacts will be on display at the center throughout February and include an assortment of figurines, masks, safari animals, Kenya musical instruments and other items from Botswana, Kenya, the Ndebele Tribe, Ga-Rankuwa and the Pretoria Zoo Market Place in South Africa. 544-5498.
Hernando County Water Awareness Series presents "Lawn Care for Drought Conditions": 10 a.m. to noon, Hernando County Utilities Department, 21030 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Bark Beach opens at Pine Island: 8 to 10 a.m., Alfred McKethan/Pine Island, 10800 Pine Island Drive, Weeki Wachee. The park will be open to dogs and owners; cost is $5 per car or walk-up patron (there is no cost for those without dogs). Proof of current vaccinations are required to enter the park. There will be games and a raffle to win a free Webkinz and free Shining Star (must be present to win). Also, those who bring a Shining Star to the party, or purchase one at the party, will receive a gift. There will also be a contest for the best house created for their Webkinz or Shining Star. Composer Joseph Martin concert: 3 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 9344 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. The concert will feature the 75-voice choir of First United Methodist Church performing Martin's compositions, directed by the composer, as well as piano compositions composed and performed by Martin.
