BRADENTON - Keswick Christian and Northside Christian had split the season series. Behind the strong play of their four seniors, the Crusaders won the rubber match and the Class 2A, District 11 championship 47-35.
"The district championship is always a goal for us," Crusaders coach Karrmayne King said. "The last time we lost this season was to the Mustangs, and it was a good loss for us.
"We now want to advance farther in the state tournament than we did the last two years."
Crusaders seniors Kate Carl, Laura Grace Hoodup, Chelsea Wozniak and Haylee Hehl did most of the damage. Hoodup scored 12, grabbed six rebounds and had eight assists, Hehl scored nine points, Wozniak added eight to go along with five rebounds and Carl had 12 rebounds.
Keswick led 30-12 at halftime.
"Kayla (Walton) got hurt in the first half, and she is a big part of what we do offensively and defensively," Northside coach D.J. Jackson said.
Walton finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs and Courtney Kuntz scored 10 and grabbed five rebounds.
Both teams said they like their chances in the state tournament.
"We know we can play better than we did tonight," Jackson said.
