ODESSA - From the opening tip until the final buzzer, Lakeside Christian played as if it was on a mission.
Mission accomplished.
Receiving significant contributions from several players, Lakeside Christian defeated Academy at the Lakes 54-40 on Saturday night to clinch the Class A, District 11 title.
The Lions (14-6) set the quick tempo early after overcoming a short deficit at the beginning of the first quarter. They simply took off from there.
Hannah Ray led Lakeside Christian with 24 points and dominant play in the paint, as point guard Lauren Dugans displayed great vision in finding her open teammates near the hoop. Dugans finished with 15 points.
"We came out focused and played intense, but most importantly we played as a team," Lakeside Christian coach Paul Grenelle said.
Academy at the Lakes (10-8) was led by Leslie Parnell's 14 points and Ashley Fryer's 10.
Despite their strong play, the Wildcats couldn't get their shots to fall and often had trouble setting up offensively, allowing Lakeside Christian to capitalize on every miscue.
"What we like to do in that situation is use our speed in transition to convert some easy layups," Grenelle said.
