Threat against teacher leads to teen's arrest
After an altercation at West Hernando Middle, drugs are found on the 14-year-old, officials say.

BROOKSVILLE - A 14-year-old boy faces felony charges of drug possession and assault and battery of school personnel after being arrested on the campus of West Hernando Middle School this week.
The teen, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, was booked into the Hernando County Jail on Monday morning and later released into the custody of his mother for home detention.
The boy, a student at the school, was charged with assault and battery of school personnel, possession of crack cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
A school resource officer was summoned after getting a report that the boy had put his hands on a teacher in the classroom. The teacher told the officer that the teen had refused to do his morning assignment, then attempted to leave the classroom to go eat breakfast.
When the boy headed toward the door, according to the report, the teacher placed his hand on the teen's right shoulder and asked him to return to his seat. The boy allegedly cursed, then told the teacher to get his hands off of him. When the teacher again tried to steer the student back into the classroom, the boy reportedly grabbed the teacher by the neck, clenched a fist with the other hand and threatened to beat the man up.
Another teacher intervened, the report said, escorting the boy back into the classroom. The boy continued using "foul and abusive language," according to the report.
The teen was later advised of his Miranda rights in the presence of his mother, signed a waiver and mostly confirmed the version of events told by the teachers. When the officer asked the boy if he had anything in his pockets before arresting him, the teen produced a black knit glove with bags of marijuana, crack cocaine and methamphetamine. He told the officer the drugs didn't belong to him.

How about this . . . if they're charged with a felony, name them! I'm sick and tired of kids kids killing people and not being named because of their age . . .

Looked at his booking picture. I think he will blend in well with the prison population during his next go around. We all know he will walk from these charges against him.

Interesting article and comments in the same day's paper as the article about parents being afraid to spank a child in public. That article tries to tell us that time-outs work. I think NOT!!! Bet this boy didn't get his feelings hurt when he was 2.

It doesn't matter what his race is. Our kids are out of control. They do not feel compelled to respect adults, they are not forced to show any respect, it might hurt their minds or make them do things they don't want to do. Aww poor babies,

Tyrone, don't show your ignorance. He's a part of the HUMAN race like us all. The boy has a problem that is recognizable unlike your subtle displays of arrogance and Mr. Perfect. Be thankful this country is tolerant because it allows you to stay here

Lets not be so quick to point fingers, however, intervention by the courts is needed NOW and not later. posting the pictures is a great idea. Puts the parents and kids on the spot and perhaps makes them realize its time to wake up and follow the law

The sad thing is...the teacher will probably get a letter of reprimand in his/her file because they put their hands of the student. When are we going to stop being too PC and get to the heart of the problem? He is disturbing the education of others.

When are we going to learn that the way things use to be done may be the answer. I'm sure she said to him when she picked him up from jail "Just wait until your father comes home". Please, this kid needs an arse beating. He will stop just like I did!

The kids have all the power, teachers can't do anything and the parents as usual just want to be their friend, why will these parents not take responsibility and take care of thier kids properly.

Do you suppose this kid "learned" his unacceptable behavior from home? I say, "yes!" I can see our tax dollars going to house this one down the road...

I hope his parents and a judge get a grip on this situation NOW. Since he is so young start with drug rehab and take control of the root of all evil. (DRUGS)
