Detectives seek help to find robber

LARGO - Pinellas County sheriff's detectives are looking for a man who beat and robbed an 80-year-old Largo man and has used his credit card at local grocery stores.

The robbery took place shortly after midnight on Jan. 5 in the 10200 block of Sailwinds Boulevard in an unincorporated area of Largo, according to sheriff's officials.

The victim was returning home from a local civic club when he saw the man walking near 122nd Avenue and 104th Street. The victim offered the man a ride and then drove to a nearby apartment complex. When he stopped the car, he was punched in the face and knocked unconscious. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

Within hours of the robbery, officials say, the thief began using the victim's credit card to make purchases.

The robber is described as a 25- to 30-year-old white man, about 170 pounds and about 5 feet 10. He was clean shaven with a brown crew cut. Two charged in plunder of laundries, carwashes

Largo police Tuesday charged two Clearwater men they say used crowbars to pry open coin-operated machines at several local laundries and carwashes since Jan. 28.

Investigators tracked Vincent L. Morgan, 35, and Chad J. Barron, 24, to the Pinellas County Jail.

Both men, who live at 1274 Cleveland St., had been arrested early Monday by the Sheriff's Office on similar charges of theft and tampering with vending machines.

Questioned by Largo police, both admitted to the thefts in Largo, and each was being charged with four additional counts of grand theft, police said.
