Green Devils soccer duo signs
Standout St. Petersburg High soccer players Andrea Rodrigues and Tabitha Schofield signed with their respective schools in a 10:30 a.m. ceremony Wednesday at the school.
Rodrigues, a left midfielder who led St. Petersburg in scoring the past three years and leaves as the school's all-time leader for assists, signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Central Florida.
Schofield, a four-year starter for the Green Devils in defense and in the midfield, cast her lot with USF.
Trotter to Murray State
Boca Ciega's Ja-Vonta Trotter is an electrifying kick returner and a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He decided his moves would work best at Murray State.
Trotter picked the school over Southwest Minnesota State.
"I had a great visit when I was there," Trotter said of Murray State. "Basically, I wanted to be a big fish in a little pond rather than the other way around."
Towns picks Jacksonville
Dunedin defensive back Mike Towns, a Class 5A second-team all-state selection, signed with Jacksonville. Towns set a school record with 16 career interceptions and will join Largo DE Daniel Delguidice at Jacksonville.
Wilson a Bull
Former Dunedin standout Theo Wilson, who played the past two seasons at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, signed with USF.
Wilson was a multidimensional quarterback who beat teams with his arm as well as his legs when he was with the Falcons. As a senior in 2004, Wilson passed for 1,434 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 783 yards and 10 touchdowns. He likely will be a defensive back with the Bulls.
