Ex-Junior Miss Largo charged
Former Junior Miss Largo Katherine "Katie" Rees, who in 2006 made headlines after being dethroned as Miss Nevada USA, is back in the news. Rees, 23, was held for about 12 hours at the Clark County Jail after police stopped her while driving about 3 a.m. Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. Police said she became physically aggressive toward a Las Vegas police officer. Rees was charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with suspended license plates, failure to produce proof of insurance and resisting a police officer. Her attorney in Tampa, Mario Torres, denies she was aggressive, saying: "They used aggression against her." He said she chipped or lost a tooth in the incident. Rees, who grew up in Pinellas County, was dethroned by the Miss Universe organization and co-owner Donald Trump in December 2006 after photos appeared of her kissing other women, showing her breasts and displaying her thong underwear.
There are no plans to demolish the Cabana Club condominiums in Sand Key to make room for a hotel. The plans proposed by a developer would involve demolishing the adjacent Cabana Club restaurants. A new proposed hotel would go roughly on part of the grounds where presently there is a pool and a parking lot. A story Thursday was unclear on the plan.
