CLEARWATER

Plans to move forward with a new and long-promised Morningside Recreation Center have been put off indefinitely, the City Council agreed Thursday night. Council members indicated it could be November before the city revisits a plan to build a 25,000-square-foot replacement for the neighborhood's current recreation center. Faced with major revenue losses from recently approved state mandates to cut property tax collections and possible further losses if taxable property values fall this year, city leaders opted not to move ahead with the project - yet. Instead, council members directed their staff to see how much it will cost to keep the current center on Harn Boulevard up and running for a couple more years. Morningside residents supported the move, saying they understood the financial restraints, but urged the council not to abandon the project altogether.

A barbershop quartet, composed of members of the former Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, will present your sweetheart with love songs, a red silk rose and parchment scroll for as little as $50. The barbershoppers group is a nonprofit organization and charities will benefit from this effort. Deliveries can be made anywhere in Pinellas and Pasco counties. To schedule a singing valentine, call (727) 784-8052 for deliveries north of Gulf-To-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater and (727) 772-7043 for deliveries south of Gulf-To-Bay.
