TAMPA - St. Petersburg Catholic used a pair of outstanding performances from Tracy Parks and Julian Dudley to defeat Tampa Catholic 70-60 in the Class 3A, District 11 semifinals.
Parks scored 24, and Dudley grabbed 20 rebounds and scored 17.
"Tracy averages about 25 or 26," Barons coach Michael Moran said. "He's going to handle the ball for us and manage to come up big in every game."
Dudley's rebound total was a mark Moran said he had never seen and that it carried the team to victory.
Alex Doyle scored a team-high 14 for the Crusaders, but the team was unable to cut into the Barons' lead.
"I am extremely proud of my guys," Moran said. "I'm looking forward to (today)."
The Barons face Berkeley Prep in the district finals. The Buccaneers topped Lennard 70-32 in the first semifinal.
Berkeley Prep and St. Petersburg Catholic split their season series, with the Bucs winning the first matchup 66-55 and the Barons taking the second one 71-63.
"We got beat a couple of weeks ago (by Berkeley Prep), but we were able to get by them on our home court," Moran said. "They're the top team in the district for a reason."
The Bucs never trailed in their semifinal with Lennard, posting an early 33-9 lead in the second quarter. By the end of the first half, Lennard trailed 47-15.
Austin Suarez paced Berkeley Prep with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Zak Zakinski led all scorers with 13 points.
